The Vision of Bharati Vidyapeeth’s College of Engineering Lavale (BVCOEL), Pune is "SOCIAL TRANSFORMATION THROUGH DYNAMIC EDUCATION."  The Students’ Development Cell (SDC) (old name : Board of Students' Development (BSD)) at BVCOEL, Pune, aligns with the institute's vision of social transformation by promoting student-centric research, innovation, and community-focused initiatives.

The Students’ Development Cell (SDC) truly embodies this multifaceted and multidimensional vision. It views the youth as a source of strength, harnessing their energy for nation-building and socially relevant activities to create an egalitarian society. SDC oversees the protection of students' rights and supervises their development activities at the college. It promotes and coordinates various student activities to enhance campus life, aiming to nurture students' mental, physical, and cultural growth. Through various initiatives, SDC fosters overall personality development and prepares students to be civilized Indian citizens capable of competing in the globalized world.

Dr. Jyoti Atul Dhanke has been appointed as the Students’ Development Officer (SDO)/Students’ Welfare Officer (SWO) at SDC, BVCOEL to oversee the implementation of various activities and schemes under this cell.

The Students’ Development Cell (SDC) (old Name : Board of Students' Development (BSD)) aims to assist students with the issues and difficulties related to their day-to-day life and other aspects connected with their academic world, personality development, and healthy campus environment.

The Objectives of the Students’ Development Cell (SDC), BVCOEL are outlined below:

  • To Propose Various Schemes

The Students’ Development Cell (SDC), at BVCOEL submits proposals for various schemes to BSD, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), after receiving invitations from the University.

  • To Attend Meetings

SDC, BVCOEL acts as a liaison between the institute and SPPU, attends meetings at BSD, SPPU, and coordinates meetings for SDC and student members.

  • To the Implementation of Approved Schemes

SDC, BVCOEL ensures the follow-up and implementation of approved schemes such as Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil “Earn and Learn Scheme”, and Fearless Girls Campaign (Nirbhay Kanya Abhiyan) etc. by the University and has these schemes are audited by BSD, SPPU.

BVCOEL establishes various committees in coordination with Students’ Development Cell (SDC) to address student concerns and resolve their issues. Our college has the following committees:

Composition and Activities of Students’ Development Cell

Aim of SDC:

To assist students with issues and challenges related to their daily lives, academic pursuits, personality development, and fostering a healthy campus life.

The Students’ Development Cell (SDC) is an extension and linkage of the Board of Students’ Development (BSD) at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), Pune. It implements various student-centric activities and student welfare schemes sponsored by the Board for the overall development of students, as well as social activities for community development in Lavale and nearby areas.

As per guidelines of the Board of Students’ Development (BSD), Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), Pune, and following Clause 56(2)(C) of the Maharashtra Public Universities Act, 2016 (Mah. Act. No. VI of 2017), the Students’ Development Cell (SDC) has been established in the Bharati Vidyapeeth’s College of Engineering Lavale, Pune. The Students’ Development Cell (SDC) shall consist of five members, each assigned specific roles and duties to ensure the effective functioning of the Cell. The Board of Students’ Development (previous name) has been operational at the college since the 2018-19 academic year.

Earn & Learn Scheme

Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil Earn and Learn Scheme

The Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil Earn and Learn Scheme is implemented in the college to foster a work culture and promote the physical, mental, and social development of students. This initiative emphasizes "Building Skills, Earning Thrills" and encourages students to "Study Hard, Work Smart."

Process for the Earn and Learn Scheme

  1. Application Invitation and Submission
    • At the beginning of the academic year, as per SPPU circular the institute invites applications from students to participate in the scheme.
    • Economically backward and Interested students submit their applications along with the required documents.
  2. Review and Selection
    • A committee reviews the applications and verifies the required documents.
    • Eligible students are selected through an interview process.
  3. Task Assignment
    • Selected students are assigned various tasks in offices, nurseries, computer labs, laboratories, libraries, etc.
    • The tasks are designed to enhance their skills related to their field of study, office work, technical work, and fieldwork.
  4. Work and Compensation
    • Students perform the assigned tasks, gaining practical experience and skill development.
    • Students receive financial assistance, with a compensation of Rs. 55 per hour for their work every month.
  5. Remuneration Transfer and Monitoring
    • The remuneration is directly transferred to the student's accounts as per university rules.
    • The institute monitors the student's progress and provides support as needed to ensure successful participation.
    • The institute submits a report for an audit to SPPU in the month of March.

This concise process ensures a structured and efficient implementation of the Earn and Learn Scheme, benefiting both the students and the institute.

Objectives :

The main objective of this scheme is to support students and for the benefit of students coming from the rural areas, who are economically backward, intelligent, and meritorious but cannot afford higher education. These schemes aim to assist needy and financially hard-pressed students in the following ways:

  1. To provide financial help to economically weaker and needy students to complete their higher education.
  2. To uphold the dignity of human labor.
  3. To integrate practical knowledge with academic learning.
  4. To inspire students towards self-employment.
  5. To raise awareness among students about work culture.

Statistics of the Scheme :

Each year, the Students’ Development Cell (SDC) provides an opportunity for 15 to 45 students to participate in the Earn and Learn Scheme. Through this scheme, students learn professional skills and understand the value of money. Students working under this scheme are paid an honorarium of Rs. 55 per hour. The funding is shared between Savitribai Phule Pune University, which contributes 90%, and Bharati Vidyapeeth’s College of Engineering Lavale, Pune, which contributes 10%.
